Course Curriculum

Introduction to SQL
This module covers an overview of database types and introduces Structured Query Language (SQL). It includes differentiating between client-server and file-server databases, navigating SQL Server Management Studio, and understanding SQL tables and data types. Participants will also be introduced to Transaction-SQL (T-SQL), Windows Authentication, Data Control Language (DCL), and essential keywords and syntax in T-SQL.
Database Normalization and Entity-Relationship Modeling
This section explores the Entity-Relationship Model (ERM), including entities, entity sets, attributes, and operations. Students will learn about relationship sets, degrees of relationships, and mapping cardinalities such as one-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-one, and many-to-many, as well as the symbols used in E-R notation.
SQL Operators and Database Fundamentals
This module provides an overview of relational databases and covers the basic concepts of rows, tables, and columns. It includes various SQL operators (logical and relational), constraints, domains, indexes, stored procedures, and keys (primary and foreign). Additionally, participants will explore group functions in SQL and unique keys.
Working with SQL: Joins, Tables, and Variables
Learners will delve into advanced SQL table concepts, exploring SQL functions, operators, and queries. The module covers table creation, data retrieval, and joining rows from tables using inner, outer, cross, and self-joins. Participants will also use set operators, create temporary tables, and understand table variables.
Advanced SQL Functions
This section focuses on SQL functions, including scalar and aggregate functions. Students will explore functions for different data types such as numbers, characters, strings, and dates. The module also covers inline SQL functions, general functions, and duplicate functions.
Subqueries in SQL
Participants will learn about SQL subqueries, their syntax, and how to modify them with set clauses. The module covers different types of subqueries, including those used with where, select, insert, update, and delete statements, and practices creating and viewing subqueries.
SQL Views, Functions, and Procedures
This module introduces SQL views, including creating, modifying, and using them. It also covers stored procedures and their benefits, implementing stored procedures, user-defined functions, and error handling in SQL.
Advanced User-Defined Functions
This section explores user-defined functions (UDFs), including scalar, inline table value, and multi-statement table UDFs. Participants will understand stored procedures and their deployment, explore the rank function, and learn about triggers and their implementation.
SQL Optimization and Performance Tuning
This module covers techniques for optimizing SQL queries and database performance, including grouping records, creating clustered indexes, using indexes for query optimization, and common table expressions. Guidelines for index usage are also provided.
Advanced Topics in SQL
Learners will dive into advanced SQL topics such as correlated subqueries, grouping sets, rollup, cube, rank, common table expressions (CTEs), indexes, and triggers. The module includes hands-on exercises to implement these advanced SQL concepts.
Managing Database Concurrency and Transactions
This section focuses on applying transactions in SQL, identifying DML statements within transactions, and managing isolation levels. It includes understanding concurrency and locking behavior, as well as memory-optimized tables.
Practical SQL Application Module 1
Participants will practice Transact-SQL queries, query multiple tables with joins, aggregate data, and perform data modification operations. The module covers the impact of DDL statements, implementing DML statements with output clauses, querying data with subqueries and APPLY, and utilizing table expressions, grouping, and pivoting data.
Practical SQL Application Module 2
This module involves constructing recursive table expressions, utilizing window functions for data grouping, and creating database programmability objects. Students will also implement error handling and transactions, manage data types and NULL values, design and implement relational database schema, and deploy clustered indexes.
Practical SQL Application Module 3
The final module covers employing T-SQL statements and DML operations, designing stored procedures' components, handling input and output parameters, and applying error handling in procedures. It includes implementing control logic, designing trigger logic, ensuring the accuracy of statistics, maintaining statistics, identifying missing indexes, and optimizing database performance.
